Mesa Animal Control Officers provide service seven days a week from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. (MST). All calls for animal control service must be made to the police non-emergency number, (480) 644-2211, which is available 24 hours a day. This includes dead animal pickup, handled by an independent contractor. Mesa Animal Control handles all animal calls including fowl, livestock, reptiles, unsanitary premises, noise disturbances (by an animal), animals at large, vicious dog incidents, animal bite reports, and cruelty/abuse/neglect situations. Mesa Animal Control also provides traps for Mesa residents to use in catching nuisance cats or other small animals. The supervisor is available from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday and can be reached at (480) 644-2044. The office is also manned by an Animal Control Specialist, who can be reached at (480) 644-2268 or (480) 644-2084. |
| My neighbor's dog won't stop barking, to whom do I report this? |
First, you should try to make contact with the owner and make them aware of the problem. Generally, dogs are left outside when the owner is away and the owner may not be aware of the problem. If this is not possible or the problem persists, you will need to have the exact address for the problem dog and call the Mesa Police Department non-emergency number at (480) 644-2211. An Animal Control officer will respond and either talk to the dog owner or leave a notice (doorhanger) making them aware of the problem. If this does not solve the problem and you want something else done, you will not be able to remain anonymous. You will have to come forward with specific dates and times you were disturbed. On a noise disturbance, you are the victim, not the officer and not the city. If you are willing to testify in court and want prosecution, a citation can be issued to the dog owner. You may also contact the Community Manager to have the Association send the owner a letter. |
| If someone's cat is running free, to whom do I report this? |
Try to contact the owner. Agencies do not generally respond to calls regarding cats as cats are considered 'free roaming' animals. |
